Trip Description:
We decided last minute to take advantage of a nice weather weekend and get the camper out for the first time this season.

We de-winterized the camper and took it to nearby Babler State Park. This park is just about 30 minutes from our home, but it is nestled away and very peaceful. There are several trails and a bike path, but not much else. It was perfect for us, because we all just needed to get away for a couple days and relax. We got to the campground and got the site set up just in time for dinner, then lounged around for the remainder of the evening.

After breakfast Saturday morning, we hiked the Dogwood trail. This trail has many connectors and intersects with the equestrian trail in multiple places, so you can make it as long of a hike as you wish. The trail is very scenic with a beautiful spring about 1/2 way around the loop. We ended up hiking 3.5 miles before we went back to the camper for lunch.

We enjoyed more lounge time at the camper after lunch, finally getting caught up on some reading. We gathered ourselves up late in the afternoon to check out the visitor center and hike one more trail. The park assistant was nice enough to put a movie on for us in the center’s little theater. It was about the return of Black Bears to Missouri. The visitor center also has a nice display of animals and scenes and activities for the kids.

After touring the visitor center, we hiked the Virginia Day Memorial Trail. This is a short trail that is just a nice walk in the woods. It was a nice afternoon stroll. We then returned to the camper for dinner and even some TV time before turning in early. We slept in Sunday, had breakfast and packed up. All in all, it was a lazy, relaxing weekend with a bit of exercise and trail time mixed in. A nice change of pace for us.
