Location: Johnson Shut-Ins State Park near Black, MO
Miles: 10.03
Elevation Gain: 1234 ft
Hiking Time: 3:11:14
Weather: 45*F, Overcast, Calm
Trail Conditions: The trail is smooth and fast in the lower elevations with a couple creek crossings, but rugged and rocky along the peak/upper ridge.

Trip Description: In my quest to complete 500 miles for the year and hike some trails that I have not hiked before or hiked all of, I decided to return to Goggins Mountain. To get to this trailhead, drive to the Johnson Shut-Ins campground (on the other side of HWY N from the Shut-Ins on HWY MM). The trailhead is on the right just inside the entrance. I have hiked half of this trail, to the the peak and back down, but never the entire loop. I hiked it solo today, stopping for lunch on a granite glade where the group camped the last time I was here. The solitude was great. I was the only one on the trail and the only person in the entire park, from what I saw. This trail offers some beautiful sites including a nice creek with some rock outcroppings near the trailhead and a unique view of the Taum Sauk reservoir and scour from the peak. There is also a connector from this trail to the Taum Sauk section of the Ozark Trail at about mile 3 if you hike the loop clockwise.
