New Year’s Eve Hike on the Wilderness Trail at Meramec State Park

Date of Hike: 12/31/2016
Trail Name: Wilderness Trail
Location: Meramec State Park, near Sullivan, MO
Miles: 8.8
Elevation Gain: 915
Hiking Time: 3:43
Weather: 46*F, overcast, no wind
Trail Conditions: This is an easy hiking trail with mostly smooth surfaces. A few rocky areas, some pine needle and moss cover in different zones, and a couple steep inclines keep it interesting.

Trip Description:
Incredible weather for December begged us to get outside, but the main goal of the hike was to tally the final 8 miles in my quest for 500 miles on the year. Jen, Taylor, Riley, Craig, and Joe all joined me for the final hike of 2016 and help me achieve my goal. The trail has some nice features such as springs, caves, rock bluffs, babbling brooks and creek crossings. You will walk through hardwoods, pine forest, grassland, and a beautiful natural area on the back half. The loop is 8 1/2 miles but has connectors so you can make it as short or long as you want.
