Mammoth Cave National park in Kentucky is the closest NP to our home, only about a 5 1/2 hour drive, so we decided to check it out over a long weekend. We arrived Friday afternoon at Singing Hills RV park, a quaint little campground right outside the NP. We set up the camper, had a quick lunch, then headed into the park. Hiking Time: about 2 hours
Weather: Clear but chilly and breezy
Trail Conditions: The trails were dry and smooth

Trail Name: Sandstone Canyon Trail
Location: Cedar Hill, MO
Elevation Gain: 607
Hiking Time: 1:51
Weather: 60F, overcast, windy
Trail Conditions: The newly constructed trail is comprised mostly of packed dirt with a few rocky and sandy areas. It was dry today, but could be sloppy in wet conditions.

Trail Name: Bell Mountain Loop / Taum Sauk Section of the OT
Location: Belleview, MO
Elevation Gain: 1164
Weather: Cold and Clear. Low was 10*F Saturday night.
Trail Conditions: The trail was frozen with patches of ice and long sections of snow cover. Lots of animal tracks on the trail.

Trail Name: Wilderness Trail
Location: Meramec State Park, near Sullivan, MO
Elevation Gain: 915
Hiking Time: 3:43
Weather: 46*F, overcast, no wind
Trail Conditions: This is an easy hiking trail with mostly smooth surfaces. A few rocky areas, some pine needle and moss cover in different zones, and a couple steep inclines keep it interesting.
Incredible weather for December begged us to get outside, but the main goal of the hike was to tally the final 8 miles in my quest for 500 miles on the year.
